Sport and Violence

2nd Edition available now.

Sport and Violence

The authors Dr. Thomas J. Orr and Dr. Lynn M. Jamieson have produced a second edition to the book they originally published in 2006.  This new text is useful in college classes that address sport management, leisure service delivery, and virtually any aspect of sport.  The book is also useful to anyone who is responsible for a administering sport programs, coaching teams, officiating sport, parenting children who engage in sport, fans, and many other people who see the benefits and the problems inherent in running sport programs.

The authors discuss the nature of sport violence and its presence in virtually every sport program regardless of type, age group of participants, or location.  Further, a great deal of information exists examining causal factors and potential solutions.  The closing chapters address the key factors in managing sport programs, and they also present tangible solutions to those who desire to improve their programs.  There are anecdotal stories from real participants as well as many research based materials and resources.

The authors themselves have been coaches, officials, players, parents, sport administrators, and sport educators.  They present the material in a very understandable format that arises from real, practical experience but also provide research that backs their explanations and advice.  They have a total of over 70 years of experience in both agencies or corporations an higher education.  What they present is the result of extensive research and continual challenge as violent episodes in sport occur.  The advise that is shared could vastly improve sport programs as they exist today.
